Twisted 2023

An Exercise in Exploring Grief

Saturday 10th February & Sunday 11th February (10am – 4pm)

Unveiling a series of new sculptural paintings which feature mis-aligned canvases, alterations, or distinct missing shapes or ‘portals’, this exhibition explores the artist’s lived experience. In this series, Morrison approaches the painting process with dissonance; probing conventions associated with the painted canvas, rejecting the structures and constraints of the conventional frame. Works are uncomfortably animated, or awkwardly irregular, creating a tension that heightens the viewers emotions. The idea of understanding grief and how we navigate life with grief is the beating heart of this series of works. Viewers are invited to question the curves, contours, and silhouettes of these manipulated canvases.

With preparations of a new show in the making (details to be announced soon) I am starting to run out of space in my studio! So, I have decided it is time to host a studio sale with a selection of my most favourite artworks. I have had so much enjoyment from seeing them on my studio walls (when they are in-between shows) but now it is time for them to find a new home. So why not take advantage of this one day opportunity to snap up your wish list artwork without the gallery commission on Saturday 4th November 2023.

The Open: Bowls of Fruit 2023

The Open: Bowls of Fruit

11 July –  14 July 2022

APS Gallery presents The Open: Bowls of Fruit.

The bowl of fruit has been a source of inspiration from the 16th and 17th century. Offering artists a way to hone their skills (especially painting and drawing) with objects that remain still and don’t move, it’s a traditional subject that is frequently taught and allows for experimentation. This exhibition celebrates paintings and sculptures that showcase fruit, flowers and bowls. So, come and see our still life arrangements! Exhibition continues until 27th October 2023.

Inside Outside 2023

Inside Outside Exhibition

24 March – 12 May 2023

An exhibition exploring representations of the land, body, and mind.  Landscapes have been depicted in many ways throughout history, but they are often intertwined with deeper layers of meaning. The shape of the land could be reflective of a body, a solitary tree could symbolise personal struggles or it could simply be a moment captured that explores the elements of light, space, and time. Each artist offers their own personal journey and viewpoint that encapsulates the world we see inside and outside.

This exhibition showcases the diverse talents of the Associate Members of Aire Place Studios; Sarah Francis, Lucy Morrison, Ashley Farrari and Joss Cole.

The Artist & The Other 2022

The Artist & The Other Exhibition

26 August –  29 September 2022

Aire Place Studios presents The Artist & The Other. This exhibition showcases the artworks of 4 Leeds based artists all from differing backgrounds. There have been great strives within the visual arts sector to support artists from marginalised communities. However, does there become a point where the artists ‘other’ becomes the focus over the artwork? This project builds on Aire Place Studios’ aim to support artists from communities that face barriers to participation. We invite you as viewers to explore this exhibition and join the conversation on how we can promote a wider awareness and recognition of the value of diversity. Supported with funding from Leeds Inspired, part of Leeds City Council.

Artists in Isolation: How to Make a Virtual Gallery

Artists in Isolation: How to make a virtual gallery

RBSA Blog: Lucy Morrison is a Birmingham based artist who captures the diverse landscapes of the UK in expressive oil paintings and has entered work in RBSA open submissions several times. In the same week that the UK began a national lockdown, Lucy was due to exhibit but was faced with a cancellation instead, like many artists.

Compelled to create a space for people to interact with her work from the safety of their homes, Lucy made a virtual gallery online.

Here is Lucy’s experience of creating the virtual exhibition…  Read the full feature here
